Day four has arrived, and I am trying to make the most of it! It has been a packed schedule so far, but that’s typically my style of travel anyways. After another relaxing morning and beautiful breakfast (like day one), we set off to see more sights of Ubud.

Since we visited most of the temples during day one and day three of our Bali adventure, we only had one more temple we really wanted to visit. This was the day we would visit Goa Gajah; the Elephant Cave Temple.

In my opinion, it was the most unique out of the temples we were able to see in Bali. The temples we visited earlier all ended up having similar features and architecture to them. The Goa Gajah site was unique because of it’s amazing and intricate entrance carved into the side of a mountain. I mean just take a look; this entrance speaks for itself!

Walking around I also noticed more rock formations and structures within the site. This is one of those details that seem to set it apart from other temples. The site itself is very compact, and is easily walkable. You honestly don’t need any more than 30 to 45 minutes to explore the place. Goa Gajah provided a secluded and peaceful feeling. It is a drive away from the main town of Ubud, but that just adds to it’s charm and that feeling of seclusion. It’s set back from the main road, and if you can imagine, surrounded by even more jungle!

TIP: Men may come up to you and ask if you want to know the history of the place, but they’re actually just selling a guided tour. If you don’t want a guide, just politely decline before they start.

I highly recommend taking your time and walking around all of the foot paths you can find. Its beautiful, lush, and peaceful. There weren’t many people around the day we went, so we almost felt like we had the whole place to ourselves!

TIP: When you enter you need to have your legs covered; if you don’t you’ll need to put on a sarong. You don’t need to buy any from the merchants out front (unless you want a souvenir), because they provide a free one for you at the entrance.

Goa Gajah is a place I would say is worth it to go out of your way and visit. It was just a quick taxi ride, and I’m happy that I got the chance to explore it.

After walking around Goa Gajah, we headed back into town to have some lunch and walk around. We had an amazing lunch (and view!) that was much needed fuel to get through the rest of the day!

After walking around, grabbing some souvenirs, and a museum we headed back to the amazing comforts of our villa. I spent the remainder of my day on the porch with a good book, a view, and a mangosteen! What a great way to end the day.
